Our System for Organizational and Individual Development

The leadership moments system is designed to create organizational cultures with strong and effective leadership and leaders who can make the most of every leadership moment. A leadership moment occurs when a leader engages with a follower or followers to accomplish a goal. Such moments might include coaching employees, having difficult conversations, facilitating meetings, developing strategic plans, making decisions, etc. The key to success in such moments for is for individual leaders and followers to develop and apply the basic fundamental skills of leadership that are required in every leadership moment and to then develop the moment specific competencies that are needed in the moments most relevant to one’s leadership. For example, leaders need to be able to engage in effective decision-making in every leadership moment. In contrast, they only need to develop and apply public speaking skills if their role requires this. The leadership moments system helps leaders assess and develop their fundamental and moments specific leadership skills.

The Leadership Moments Organizational Development System

The full leadership moments system is designed to facilitate comprehensive leadership change in your organization. It begins with the provision of a three-day leadership academy for executives that introduces the system and the fundamental skills of leaders. Leaders then complete a 360 assessment to identify the areas in which they need to improve. They then receive coaching twice a month along with access to our library of development resources to help them improve in these areas.

 

After six months of coaching, a two-day retreat is organized to engage in strategic thinking and culture creation. Strategy and culture are the two priorities of executive leaders. With a foundation in the fundamentals of leadership, the leadership team should be ready to shift its focus to developing a clear strategic plan and culture plan for the organization. Having done this, the focus of coaching shifts to supporting leaders in implementing this plan.

 

After another 6 months, training will be provided for the next level of leaders in the organization via a monthly half day leadership academy. The already trained and coached upper-level leaders will be invited to begin coaching their own subordinates in relation to their development and the strategic and cultural plans during this year. These leaders will continue to participate in monthly coaching sessions to support them in their coaching efforts of their own employees.

 

After this year of work, leadership and followership academic cascade to the remaining leaders and followers in the organization via monthly training sessions. Leader-follower and peer coaching continue to be implemented as the leadership strategy, and culture plans are cascaded through the organizations.

The Leadership Moments Leadership Development System

There are two different tracks for individual leaders:

  1. The competency track: This track involves assessing a leader’s individual competencies and assisting them to develop a leadership development plan. They then receive coaching twice a month to support them in their efforts to implement the plan and improve as a leader. As part of the coaching program, they have access to our competency focused development library of online module. This is a program focused on leadership competency development for leaders who need to focus on developing specific skills that help them capture the power of their leadership moments.

  2. The fundamentals track. Individuals on the fundamentals track complete a 360 assessment of their leadership behaviors as they relate to the fundamental skills and competencies. They then complete a 1-day training related to the fundamentals of leadership. Once the training is complete, they develop a leadership practice plan and begin bimonthly coaching sessions focused on helping them. They also have access to our developmental library. This is a program focused on helping leaders define and put into practice the fundamental skills that help them capture the power of their leadership moments.

The Leadership Moments Follower Development System

At leadership moments, we believe that the role of follower is at least as important to the success of any leadership moment as that of the leader. Consequently, we have a program designed specifically for individuals who want to strengthen their skills as followers. This program is based on the fundamental skills of followers. Participants begin by complete a 1 day training on effective following and then develop a plan for strengthening their effectiveness as organizational partners and followers. They then receive coaching on a biweekly basis to support them in the their plan.
